Youth Emblems

The Diocese of Orange administers the following national religious emblems for Cub and Boy Scouts and Venturing crew members. Emblems workbooks are available at the Scout Shop and NCCS Online Store or scoutshop.org

Cub Scout Religious Emblems:

  • Light of Christ – Catholic Tigers and Wolves
  • Parvuli Dei – Catholic Bears, Webelos and Arrow of Lights

The Cub Scout emblems are to be worked on with the family. It should not be a den activity. The emblem should take 2-3 months to complete. The emblem is awarded at the DCCS Mass and Ceremony in January and the BSA religious knot can be awarded at a Pack meeting. The completed and signed application must be submitted to DCCS by November 1st, to participate in the Ceremony in January. After the Cub has completed the workbook and met with the parish priest for review, send the completed signed form (please include your email address on the form), check made out to DCCS for $35 for medal, knot and parent pin to:

Boy Scout Religious Emblems:

  • Ad Altare Dei – Roman Catholic Boy Scouts 13+ years old
  • Light Is Life – Eastern Catholic Boy Scouts 13+ years old

Boy Scout and Venturing Emblem:

  • Pope Pius XII – Catholic Boy Scouts and Venturing crew members (boys and girls) 15+ years old

Boy Scout and Venturing religious emblems are worked on in scheduled meetings with a trained religious emblems counselor (moderator for Pope Pius XII). Sessions typically start in January or February. Participants must attend a retreat as part of the program and pass a Board of Review typically held in mid-November. Payment is due at the Board of Review. The emblems are awarded at a diocesan ceremony in January. The religious knot can be awarded at a parish ceremony or Court of Honor.
