Back in 1989, Msgr. John F Sammon wanted to recognize the continuing effort of CCS committee members. To this effect, The Diocese of Orange Catholic Committee developed this award and it’s requirements under the guidance of Msgr. Sammon. Some requirements are waived only if clergy or a council member is nominated, otherwise the requirements are a must. Only the prior award recipients are on the selection committee.

The selection is made at the same time the Bronze Pelican and St. George are made.
